Avid barre class lovers know that grip socks are a frequent requirement of the method. This requirement started back at the original barre studio, The Lotte Berk Method. Socks (okay just regular socks not grip socks) were required. Lydia Bach (the creator and founder of all things barre in this country) taught that covering the feet would keep the heat regulated in the body. The Lotte Berk Method classes were performed on a carpeted surface, making grip socks unnecessary. However, ballet barres unless treated, are porous.
