I know even for avid exercisers it is nerve racking to start all over with a new fitness type or even a different sport. Many people, especially athletes will tell you the benefits of cross training and mixing things up, and I am not going to disagree. But I will say that I have been doing barre classes for 20 years and they still work. Has my body changed.. HELL YES, I'm 43 not 23! But I am healthy and fit and although I could NOT run a marathon, I am in very good health. I attribute my health to the...

What's the difference between all these barre classes? In my opinion it's only a barre class if the barre is fixed to the wall or the floor AND the class teaches you an under the barre section. Basically one cannot do an under the barre section with a free standing barre. RoundBack is taught first. It is a stretch! It is a stretch like no other! I try to liken it to the split sequence because each day you attempt a split your body will give you different feedback, that is the same here...

I bitch a lot about how a barre class needs to have an under the barre section. Specifically RoundBack! RoundBack is WHY one should be doing the class. as it’s the absolutely  point! Also Under the Barre but more specifically RoundBAck is the most unique part of the class. This is why I went so far as to make it the Logo of BarSculpt. Do yourself and your clients a favor...

I started my weekend taking a barre class at a competing studio. Now you might think as a studio owner that i do this all the time. I do not. The reason I do not is not because I fear the competitors or personally feel threatened or do not like them, actually Portland Maine studio owners are all very accepting and supportive of each other with only a few exceptions. The reason I do not go, if for two reasons. #1 my time is limited and I need to be sure I get a GREAT class in if I am going...

With Mothers day coming up I am quickly reminded how much my mother does for me. That realization comes quickly with how much I do for my kids and mostly don't realize because they are my little people and I love them to bits. But WOW does it feel nice to be appreciated. Many of my clients are moms. I would say all of them have or have had a mom...

Allie Marszalek has been active through sports and exercise throughout most of her life. Her training in combat sports began in childhood, as Allie was a student at the J.H. Kim Tae Kwon Do institute for over ten years. She received her black belt from their Boston location in 2010. After this, she trained in boxing technique at the Nonantum Boxing Club in Newton, MA on and off during 2012. It was around this time that Allie found her Yoga mat through elective credit classes during college. Allie has since practiced both Yoga and Barre regularly at Shanti Yoga (formally...

When I was hired to be a teacher at the Lotte Berk Method there were three things they were clear on. 1) The duration of your training depends on you - you will be trained like an athlete and you will be sore like one too, 2) Your training does not guarantee you will teach classes, 3) Dedication to the task is not an option. So, after agreeing to all of that and my new salary (yes, you received a salary to train), I was ready to begin. Not everyone at the Lotte Berk Method was trained privately, but I was....
