How often shall I take class?

How often should I take class? Seems like a simple question... it is not!
When I started teaching group, adult fitness in 1999 the answer I was paid to give is "3 times a week MINIMUM." Seriously. It didn't matter your age, fitness level or activity level. The stock answer was to help you develop the workout as a habit. However, I don't really think that is what the question is asking, do you?
We learned a lot since Pilates and Barre were created, about the body and how we should move. I believe the ENTIRE person should be taken into consideration when any advice is given but definitely something this personal. I would need to consider if you do other exercise and if you have had more birthdays celebrated out of school than in (do you see what I did there?). All humans should definitely be doing something to keep ones body in balance. Meaning we all vary on what muscles naturally want to do ALL the work, but we all need to find harmony within our bodies, front to back, side to side and top to bottom.
There have been times in my life that I have done Barre and Pilates EVERY day. It's not dangerous, at very least it wasn't for me, but it also is absolutely unnecessary. If you are giving your movement your all, trying your hardest to keep good form, maintaining breath and always pushing yourself past comfort. There would be no reason to do more than an hour of exercise per day, regardless of your outside activities.
But lets say you swim 3X a week or play tennis on the weekends. Then you will NOT necessarily need to do 3 classes a week. UNLESS you know you require the extra balance training (remember sports like tennis and golf are one-sided) or your refuse to stretch on your own after a workout. Do you know my tightest clients and the ones who always complain about inflexibility, they are dog owners. They walk their dog. They forget that they are actually also getting that exercise and they come back home, kick off their shoes and sit down! NOOOOOOOO. Anytime you are warm, STRETCH!!
So as you can see, I can babble and babble about this question.. but unless you and I have a one on one conversation, I cannot answer you with any sort to authority!
