Class should leave you feeling invigorated!

The abdominal and cool down sections are the last 15 to 20 minutes of class. Anyone who has ever taken a Pilates Mat class knows how much mental attention to detail is needed to keep abdominal muscles doing the work when all the other parts of the body are also being instructed to move. This is one benefit to starting with Barre over Pilates. Coordination in a barre class is minimal. YES! I know you don't believe me, but it is true. One does not need to be a dancer, or have a strong hold on their right vs left. You will not learn combinations in BarSculpt barre and counting is to guide you and your brain to the end, not to keep musicality and a beat.
The abdominal section is saved for the last strengthening part of class because IF at anytime you were to overwork your back muscles, our curl (c-curve, crunch... whatever you want to call it) will engage the abdominals so to relax the back and even stretch any tightness out! Basically we are ironing out any kinks. For some reason if back stress and I mean stress, not pain, happens after a BarSculpt barre class usually RoundBack gets the blame. I will say after 21 years of teaching this class, the section that usually wrenches the back is the weight section or the seat section. That is WHY in a BarSculpt barre class we always stress form over function. Meaning your body is correctly aligned NOT that you were able to remember the choreography.
The CoolDown section is just that.. well mostly. We do spend a bit of time in extension, lengthening out the abdominals which is more of an abdominal and back extensor exercise than a stretch. Also we have back, bridge or knee dancing (depending on the classes level), these exercises rewarm the body for the band stretches that deliciously come after.
If all of class is done with correct intensity during strengthening sections and all stretch portions having calming intentions with a focus on deep breathing, you should end class excited to do it all over again.
Schedule a class next week NOW!! You'll be happy you did!
