15 Jul A Personal Statement From a BarSculpt Trainee…
“I can say that I never thought I would be a “Before and After” story, but then again I never imagined I would find a workout program that would so significantly change my life. In 2001 at the age of 28, I was involved in a car accident. After 12 months of chiropractic care, 18 months of physical therapy, 7 surgeries and enough medication to sedate a horse the toll on my body, confidence and peace of mind was clearly evident.. Once the task of managing my injuries seemed to be over, I decided to work on the 50+ pounds that I had gained over the course of my treatments. I made a commitment to a personal trainer three times per week and tried to stay positive… Many exercises were simply too painful and required a range of motion that my now-fused spine would not accommodate. I tried to gently explain my limitations to the trainer but after a few months it was clear that we were not communicating…. I considered taking a ballet class for adults and a fortuitous Google search led me to the Lotte Berk Method. I started training in my living room. Somehow this workout just made sense to me. The workout was so different from anything I had done before but my body seemed to know best….I started with only a couple days per week but the results came so quickly that i was motivated to attend 5 weekly classes to make my goals. To my absolute shock, the exercises allowed me to challenge myself without injury….The stress of my busy life disappears for the hour that I am attending class. Form and breathing is everything. There is no room for to-do lists, work deadlines or relationship demands within that hour. While it is a shared experience with women whose lives are similarly burdened, for that hour I am alone in a ritual of taking good care of myself. I leave class with a sense of accomplishment and peace. That one hour of my day reinforces the sometimes forgotten notion that I must always be good to myself and simply breathe.”
